Tehran stages ‘Glass Menagerie’ by Tennessee Williams

Iranian director Mikaeel Shahrestani sends Tennessee Williams’ ‘The Glass Menagerie’ on stage in Tehran.

Iranian director Mikaeel Shahrestani has sent Tennessee Williams’ ‘The Glass Menagerie’ on stage at Tehran’s Theater House.

The play ‘The Glass Menagerie’, produced in 1944, tells the story of a young man who reluctantly supports a family that his father has abandoned.

He has a painfully shy and faintly crippled sister whose preoccupation with a collection of glass animals draws her away from reality.

Struggling with depression, his family has to deal with the past, the future, and one another.

Thomas Lanier Tennessee Williams III (1911–1983) was an American playwright.

He is considered among the three foremost playwrights in 20th-century American drama along with Eugene O'Neill and Arthur Miller.

Born in 1962, Mikaeel Shahrestani is a veteran Iranian actor and stage director. Beginning his professional career in 1979, the Iranian director has appeared in a number of TV series and directed several plays.

The play ‘The Glass Menagerie’ will be on stage until May 1.
